Offering First Fruits

Recently, I had my first SFC household of the year and the topic was about offering First Fruits. At first I wasn’t sure what it means but my understanding of it is to give back to the Lord. It is not about the money, it is about the symbolism of your heart and how much you want to give back to Him. It isn’t about the amount of money but to offer what your heart wants.

Giving regular tithes, I have not been doing for the past years. I admit I am not consistent with my faith and it is a challenge to be faithful everyday. I barely go to church on Sundays and I must change that habit – laziness is a sin after all. I need to make time for God in order to give back to Him as he has showered me with many blessings, it is easy to forget about faith and fall into temptations and other distractions. If we have time for those other things, we definitely have time for God – we just need to make time to serve Him.

Reflecting on it, I need to change. I need to give back to the Lord after He has given me good health; talents, skills and capabilities; work, career and livelihood; community, protection, mastery over heart. To give thanks to Him and to pray for the Fruit of Humility, Gift of the Spirit and Joy in the Heart so that we may be overflowed with more blessings from God to empower us and bring us success.

“Listen my people, I will speak; …every animal of the forest is mine, beasts by the thousands on my mountains. I know every bird of the heavens; the creatures of the field belong to Me. Were I hungry, I would not tell you, for mine is the world and all that fills it. Offer praise as your sacrifice to God; fulfil your vows to the MOST High, Then call on me in times of distress, I will rescue you, and you shall honour me.”

Psalms 50: 7-15

We need to be reminded everyday that God is always there for us and that he has a plan for us, that what we have is enough. He owns the world. Everything is His. The least we can do is to offer what we have to Him, our time, money and energy into service. That’s what I’ll do this year. Praise God for everything!
